About Katrina Stephens
Katrina discovered Chinese Brush as a new way of painting during a three-month break from work following an operation. The gift of an art book and brushes led to experimentation and a growing fascination with this ancient technique. In the twenty years since, she has developed her style and fluency in what has become her preferred medium.
Much of her inspiration comes from old Chinese masters (often nameless). One of the principles of painting the Chinese way is practice and improvement coming from copying (much like mastering a musical instrument). It is in this way that new masters are created ‘in the style of’ an old master. With no opportunity to ask how they created certain effects, Katrina has improvised, creating a more contemporary effect.
In addition to original paintings and giclee limited editions, her artwork is also translated into greetings cards, calendars and postcards. For those wishing to experience this unique art form, she runs workshops at The Royal Fowey Yacht Club, Fowey.
Katrina is also an active member of the Chinese Brush Painting Society.
